WHY USE DARWIN PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES?

We are committed to providing you with an objective and informed assessment of the difficulties you may be facing. Additionally, we aim to provide you with practical assistance and strategies in dealing with your difficulties and we will create an individualised program specific to your needs. We recognise the importance of allowing you time and space to work through issues at your own pace and reinforce that you are in charge of determining the level of intervention you require.


We also offer a comprehensive range of assessments for children, adolescents and adults. Assessments include cognitive functioning, behavioural problems, developmental difficulties and disorders (including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy), learning difficulties (reading and spelling problems, comprehension, expressing ideas) as well as court ordered or family based evaluations.     Louise is the Director/Principal Psychologist of Darwin Psychology Services.  She has over 38 years of working as a psychologist across the Northern Territory and is committed to delivering quality, individually tailored services, that assist clients to grow and meet their full potential.  


    Louise is trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Grief and Loss Therapy, Schema Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy.  In her spare time Louise enjoys relaxing in her garden and growing her own food.  She also enjoys fishing and camping and the great outdoors lifestyle offered by the Territory.

  • Catherine Hansen - Psychologist/Registrar Clinical Psychologist - Durack

    Catherine is a registrar clinical psychologist. She graduated from Charles Darwin University in 2020 with a Masters in Clinical Psychology. 


    Catherine was awarded the Sabrina J Di Lembo Memorial Scholarship during this time for her outstanding academic achievements. Catherine’s area of interest includes Research, Developmental Psychology, Perception-Cognition Psychology, Biological Psychology, Social-personality and Clinical Psychology. She graduated from Monash University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (Psychology Hon) and a Graduate Diploma in Philosophy (Hon).  She graduated in the top of her class and became a recipient of the Golden Key International Honour Society Award. Catherine then completed her Post Graduate studies in Psychology at Monash University. She also completed a Masters in Teaching (accelerated) at the University of Melbourne and taught in secondary schools for over a decade. Teaching provided Catherine the hands-on experience of adolescent mental health issues and teacher stress problems.


    Catherine has a client-focused approach and puts emphasis on building rapport with individuals across the lifespan. She has a specific interest in working with young people. Catherine is particularly passionate about the assessment and intervention of individuals experiencing anxiety and panic, depression, emotion regulation difficulties, life stress and adjustment difficulties, mental illness and addiction. She also enjoys working on building self-esteem, social skills and healthy interpersonal relationships. Catherine is able to conduct cognitive and learning assessments for clients and believes individuals gain the most benefit from therapy when treatment is evidence based by incorporating an integrative approach to therapy suited to the client’s needs. Catherine prefers a holistic approach in her therapy that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs, considering their physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. She offers compassionate counselling, within a biopsychosocial framework. She has experience working with clients in government organisations, non-governmental organisations, private practice, and educational settings.


    Catherine is a current member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and an associate member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA). In her private life Catherine likes to read, walk her beloved dog and enjoy her grown children who all have successful lives, as well as valuing friendships and social networks.

  • Carolyn Sant - Psychologist - Durack

    Recognising that asking for help can be the hardest part of someone’s journey, yet the first step in healing and recovery, Carolyn adopts a warm, empathic, respectful and non-judgemental approach to her clients.  


    Carolyn has called Darwin home, living and working in the Territory whilst raising a family for more than 30 years, working in areas such as Defence, Financial Services, and most recently with vulnerable children and families and young people in the youth justice system.

     

    Carolyn is currently completing her 5th year in the Master of Professional Psychology program at the University of New England and holds an undergraduate and honors degree in psychology from Charles Darwin University. Her approach to therapy is evidence-based and tailored to clients’ needs, both honoring and recognising a collaborative client-centred approach.  


    As an early career psychologist, Carolyn is always looking to improve practice and a Feedback Informed approach enables her to provide counseling/therapy that is flexible and responsive to clients’ needs. 


    Although Carolyn has an interest in working with vulnerable children, adolescents and families, she enjoys working with clients across the lifespan to help them achieve healthy and productive lives.


    When not studying or at work, Carolyn enjoys volunteering with animal rescue groups and spending time with family and friends. 


  • Neta Henderson - Psychologist - Durack

    Neta works primarily with clients who are 16+. She is available to work with a range of presenting issues, such as anxiety, depression, anger management, emotion regulation, grief and loss, stress and complex trauma and PTSD.


    Neta adopts a humanistic approach to psychological practice, understanding the importance of taking a holistic view of each individual person.


    She works to gain a strong understanding of, and empathise with, each individual and the different life experiences they have faced. She is passionate about working from a trauma-informed framework which she uses to gain an understanding of the deeper issues contributing to clients' current symptoms. 


    Neta is interested in utilizing a broad range of evidence-based practices to best assist her clients. Neta has undertaken training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Schema Therapy (level 1), and has completed basic training (level 1 and level 2) in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and is a full member of the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA). Neta is actively working towards accreditation in EMDR and is passionate about utilizing this modality for a range of different presentations where appropriate.


    Neta is a born and bred Darwinian and enjoys reading, studying and learning about trauma, and training her dog in tricks and agility.

  • Jacinta Richardson - Psychologist - Winnellie - Maternity Leave

    Jacinta completed 4 years of undergraduate Psychology training at James Cook University in 2018, before going on to complete a Masters of Professional Psychology at Australian Catholic University in 2021 and subsequently starting with DPS at the start of 2022.  

    Jacinta has a strong background in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Brief Solution-focused therapy. She enjoys drawing upon various evidence-based therapeutic approaches and brings elements of Schema therapy and mindfulness-based therapy into her work. 

    Jacinta works with clients of all ages. She is experienced in supporting young clients with issues related to anxiety, mood, bullying, school attendance, stress, sleep, harm ideation, body image and self-esteem. She is also experienced in supporting adults with anxiety and mood related concerns, relationship issues, stress and panic. 

    Jacinta conducts cognitive, academic and behaviour assessments for students with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia. She is trained to provide comprehensive clinical assessments for Autism and ADHD for clients of all ages.

    Jacinta is an accredited provider of the Triple P Positive Parenting Program, and enjoys working closely with parents who are experiencing stress in their parenting. The Triple P is an evidence-based program focused on providing parents with the skills they need to raise confident, healthy children and to build stronger family relationships, as well as helping parents to manage misbehaviour and prevent problems from occurring. 

    Jacinta employs a flexible approach to therapy, and enjoys working collaboratively with clients so that their expectations and preferences for therapy can be met.

    Leonee is an empathetic and compassionate psychologist with over 20 years’ experience in the industry across government and non-government sectors. Having worked across urban, rural and remote locations, and with culturally diverse children of all ages, Leonee recognises the importance of understanding the unique context and background of each of her clients. Leonee is also a qualified teacher; meaning she is uniquely skilled to provide support tailored to educational settings including in areas of behavioural management, curriculum development and student inclusion. 


    Leonee is able to provide comprehensive cognitive, educational, and learning assessments to support those around the child to best understand and support their neurodevelopmental presentation and individual needs. She is also able to provide therapeutic support including in areas of eating disorders, anxiety, depression, suicide prevention, critical incidents responses and support for those who have experienced the impact of natural disasters. 


    Leonee is a strong advocate for early support for children to promote equity, inclusion and best outcomes for your child. She applies a client focused and holistic approach to her practice that holds central the whole person: their physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing, as well as their mental health. Through Leonee’s eclectic approach, tailored to your child, Leonee will promote the development of their self-awareness, social, and interpersonal relationship skills whilst also supporting you through a collaborative, goal focused process.

  • Natalie Lim - Psychologist/Registrar Clinical Psychologist - Winnellie

    Natalie is a psychologist and clinical registrar, having completed her six years of study and training at Charles Darwin University in 2023. Natalie has worked with clients across the lifespan, enjoying both therapeutic intervention and assessment work. With her range of clinical skills, she aims to build strong therapeutic relationships with all her clients and uses a range of assessment and progress tools to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions for her clients. She has worked with children, adolescent and adult clients experiencing concerns related to depression, anxiety, sleep issues, trauma, adjustment issues and life stressors.


    Due to her passion for resilience, post-traumatic growth and self-compassion, Natalie is passionate about applying an empathetic and holistic approach to client wellbeing and growth to ensure that each client is supported across all domains and are given the supports they need to continue growing, flourishing and thriving. 


    As an early career psychologist, Natalie endeavours to deliver tailored therapeutic interventions to clients from diverse backgrounds. She has a background in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Brief Solution-focused therapy. She also draws upon elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based therapy to ensure a well-rounded approach to client concerns.


    Outside of therapy, Natalie enjoys expressing herself and playing her stresses away on the piano. She considers herself a social butterfly, but also loves her time alone to take in Darwin’s beautiful sunsets and beaches.
